VICTOR HARBOR - The Victor Harbor Rotary Club Art Show on Warland Reserve has sold 361 paintings to date, for a total of $274,767.
Rotary Club president John Cunningham was pleased by the amount.
"It is up on last year and the standard of paintings is very high once again," Mr Cunningham said.
"The feedback we have received from visitors is that the paintings are well hung and there is a good blend of colour and themes.
"Attendances have been fantastic with a steady flow of patrons every day.
"The comments have all been favourable," Mr Cunningham said.
In 2009 the Art Show sold 335 paintings with revenue oft $222,859, so this year's show has had a sales increase of 26 paintings and over $50,000 at this stage of the event.
The Art Show ends on Saturday, January 23.
Local artist Jenni Mumford was awarded the $10,000 first prize in the 2010 Rotary Club Art Show for her painting After Drought.
First time judge Peter Smales said the standard of the art show was very high with painters from interstate and of course south Australia and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
"I like the way the Victor Harbor Rotary Club after 31 years provides a channel for artists to sell their work and the opportunity for the public to see good art," Mr Smales said.
"I hope it continues,' he added.
Commenting on the winning painting After Drought Mr Smales said, "to the uninitiated it may appear deceptively simple".
"The artist dared all with a flamboyant use of textual paint.
"It is still a representational landscape, but the real subject is the dynamic rhythms and subtle colour harmonies.
"To be skilful at painting requires long and patient endeavour.
"The result looks effortless, but is often hard won," Mr Smales said.
Winning artist Jenni Mumford had not exhibited for six years.
After returning to the Fleurieu Peninsula she plans to start a new art business.
"Years ago you thought this was a prize someone else won and now I have won it," Ms Mumford said.
"This is a very prestigious art show to win and I hope I can encourage those with talent now I am back living at Encounter Bay," she added.
