RAPID BAY - A fire that threatened three homes and burnt 175 hectares at Rapid Bay on Monday has been controlled by CFS crews.
Six waterbombers assisted 160 firefighters to contain the fire, and Group Officer for the Southern Fleurieu CFS Group Greg Crawford said it took crews several hours to bring the fire under control.
"The fire surrounded three houses, they were burnt over but all houses were saved.
"One of the owners was in Canada, another one had sprinklers set up, so when he saw the threat he turned on his pump, grabbed his dog and went, and the others asked if they should stay or go, I told them I would go so they got the hell out of there, and said if it (the house) burns, it burns," Mr Crawford said.
While no lives were lost in the fire, it did cause extensive damage to property.
"One person has lost all of his feed, and there was quite a bit of fencing destroyed, but there were no stock losses and no one was hurt or injured," Mr Crawford said.
"Several crews from outside the district helped out and they all did a fantastic job.
"Without the assistance of the aircraft and water bombers we would still be out there trying to contain the fire," he said.
A spokesperson for the CFS said that the exact cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
