VICTOR HARBOR – The Toop and Toop Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival is over for another year, yet the township of Victor Harbor is still buzzing after the huge success of the event.
Drawing crowds between 5,000 and 7,000 to Warland Reserve on Sunday, not to mention various vintage cars cruising the south coast, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival was a hit with young and old alike.
Many took to the dance floor in 50’s attire and learnt a thing or two about swing dancing, while others admired the hot-rod cars that lined Ocean Street.
Mark Przibilla, Tourism, Marketing and Events Coordinator for the City of Victor Harbor said he is very pleased with the result.
“We were very lucky with the weather, the atmosphere was magic on the main street,” he said.
“We are very happy with the results, and are already looking at ideas for the next festival.”
Mayor Mary-Lou Corcoran agreed.
“We are just over the moon with the success, we’re very impressed with the atmosphere within the community,” she said.
“The city did come alive and it came alive in song and dance. We hope next year is bigger and better.”
Mayor Corcoran also noted the hard work of the organisers.
“Mark Przibilla, the tourism committee and countless volunteers worked extremely hard and were rewarded with the huge success,” she said.
“It was also great to see the main street shops participate to spread the atmosphere. We thank them for their involvement and welcome their involvement in next year’s event.”
The Power FM/5MU Best Dressed Shop Window Competition winners were announced on Sunday, with Audio Visual coming in first place and Sassy Girl and Tonkins Sports Scene tied in second, with honorable mentions to Avondale Deli and Mr Menswear.
With over 115 cars at the festival, judging the top cars of the day wasn’t easy.
Following the success, the dates for next year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival have already been released.
The event will be held from September 17 to 19, 2010.
