MYPONGA – The grand opening of the Fresh Farmers’ Market @ Myponga Bank will be held on Sunday, December 6 following a successful mediation in the Environment, Resources and Development Court.
Originally scheduled to open on October 4, the market was put on hold when neighbours appealed against approval granted by Yankalilla Council’s Development Assessment Panel.
Market spokesman Samuel Day said as a result of the mediation the market would now operate between 10.00am and 1.30pm each Sunday and that stalls would be located away from the neighbouring fence.
“It’s good that a common sense solution has been reached,” a relieved Mr Day said.
“We really want to focus on how fantastic the market will be for the region.”
He said there would be several stalls unique to the Myponga farmers’ market, including fresh herbs, a local winery and a flower supplier.
Commissioner Hodgson of the Environment, Resources and Development Court was due to sign off on the mediation as The Times was going to print.
