VICTOR HARBOR – Community consultation is currently underway for the proposed redevelopment of the Victor Harbor foreshore precinct.
The concept design includes a multi-purpose beach with access suitable for emergency boat launching and special events usage, this access point is also proposed to be an access point for machinery onto the beach area for maintenance purposes.
The naming of the precinct is also up for discussion, with names short-listed for consideration including Causeway Plaza, Port Victor Plaza or Port Victor and Encounter Plaza.
The concept has incorporated a seawall as the main feature of the redevelopment, which will double as a shared bike and pedestrian path, and also forms a component part of the Encounter Bikeway.
As part of the concept plan, Flinders Parade and The Esplanade will become one-way between Coral Street and Albert Place, as recommended in the Victor Harbor CBD traffic study.
The public consultation period will address the foreshore and causeway entrance redevelopment, car parking proposals, traffic management and formal naming of the precinct.
At September’s council meeting Councillor Pat Chigwidden said the community should take the time to view the proposed foreshore redevelopment.
“It will be exciting and I hope people do take the time to be involved with consultation as it is an area that needs upgrading,” she said.
Council resolved in part in June to proceed with the paving and upgrades proposed between the Causeway Kiosk and the Horse Tram Barn.
Paving has been purchased and delivered to the council depot in preparation for work to start later this year.
The concept plan for the Victor Harbor foreshore precinct is part of the Town Centre Master Plan, and the proposed redevelopment plan will on public display until November 16.
It can be viewed at the council’s civic centre foyer on Bay Road, or at the Visitor Information Centre at the Causeway, during office hours.
Feedback from the community will be used to refine the redevelopment concept plan before it is tabled before council for consideration and adoption.
