Talks today on TV services

13 Aug, 2008 09:38 AM
YANKALILLA - The loss of television services will be at the top of the agenda when the District Council of Yankalilla meets with the Federal Minister for Broadband, Communication and the Digital Economy today (Thursday).

Deputy Mayor Cr. Malcolm Schlein and chief executive Roger Sweetman will discuss the changeover to digital television with Stephen Conroy on behalf of concerned residents in Hallett Cove this evening.

Cr. Schlein and Mr Sweetman are concerned that a majority of residents within the district will lose their television service when the analogue service is discontinued in 2009.

"The provision of television services has always been the responsibility of the Federal Government," Cr. Schlein said.

"It is totally unacceptable that the majority of residents within the District Council of Yankalilla will lose their television service."

The council urges worried residents to contact their federal parliamentarians and Mr Conroy on the matter.

It is also seeking the support of the candidates in the upcoming Mayo by-election.
