CRICKET: Over 200 school children from across the region were at Encounter Bay Oval last Friday for Super 8’s day.
The annual event, a brainchild of the Fleurieu Junior Cricket Council, is in its fifth year and continues to produce some thrilling matches, fun and entertainment.
There were a wide range of teams from year 4/5 and 6/7 grades with mixed and girls teams.
Schools who competed in the day were Victor Harbor R-7, Yankalilla Area School, Mount Compass, Kangarilla, Rapid Bay, Encounter Lutheran and Eastern Fleurieu.
“It was great to see all the kids out here and enjoying cricket,” South Australian Cricket Association Southern region development officer Brendan Murphy said.
“If some of these kids go on and play club cricket and go through the ranks, then this junior format will continue to be a great success.
Murphy was impressed at the fantastic hospitality of the Encounter Bay Cricket Club and the organisation of the Fleurieu Junior Cricket Council.
“What they have done to create this event is outstanding, the kids love it and it’s great for cricket.”
