FOOTBALL: The Strathalbyn Football Club celebrated its 30th anniversary to one of the proudest days in the club’s history on the weekend.
The club won the 1979 grand final defeating Mount Compass at Victor Harbor and had its B grade, senior colts, junior colts and mini colts also play on the final day of the year.
A reunion was held for all sides to attend with many travelling great distances.
Former players came from Darwin, NSW, Canberra and even some from Strathalbyn.
It was the last time mini colts were played on grand final day and the coach Kurt Kube attended with some of the players who were only aged 10 at the time enjoying a beer with their A grade heroes 30 years on.
Some players had not been back to the club for 20 years, so it was a day of reminiscing and reliving the glory days of the Roosters.
During the evening captain coach Brenton Smith held the floor and gave a recount of one of the greatest games of football ever seen in the GSFL.
For the record the club won the mini colts, senior colts (who finished undefeated for the season) and A grade premierships.
