FOOTBALL: Victor Harbor Football Club’s quest for a competitive season in 2010 kicked off last Tuesday night at Victor Harbor Oval.
A massive turnout of 42 players attended the first session under new A grade coach Michael Simmons.
Kangaroos recruit Tim Boyd, impressed along with fellow recruits Leigh Ryan, Tarquin Brown, Luke Whatman, Aleks and Denis Iljcesen.
Also pleasing for the coaching staff was the big turnout of senior colts pressing for senior selection.
“It is a good start, but we have some work to do to catch the other clubs,” Simmons said.
“I was impressed with the attitude of all the boys and in particular the young guys Sam Sparvell, Ben Basham, Andrew Topley and the Weetra boys.
“Very encouraging to see so many new players who have come to the area.”
Pre-season training continues tonight at Victor Harbor Oval from 6pm.
Victor Harbor will tackle Southern Football League’s Reynella in a pre-season match for A and B grade on March 20.
The following week on March 27, the Kangaroos clash with Edwardstown in another pre-season match, this time for all grades.
Both matches will be played at Victor Harbor Oval.
The club will have a camp at the Anchorage on March 6 and 7 for A grade, reserve and senior colt players and a Coorong pre-season trip is planned for the junior colts to kick-start their season.
The Great Southern Football League season starts on April 10. and all teams are out training hard at the moment to try and take the flag away from Willunga.
