FOOTBALL: This Saturday the Great Southern Football League will play its annual association football match against River Murray Football League.
Under 15, Senior Colts and A grade will lock horns at Mypolonga and the junior grades are well coached by Ryan Bridges and Mark McGuiness (under 15) and James Hoffman and Scott Baggs (senior colts).
Experienced GSFL executives Neville Miller and Gav Correll oversee the junior development in the league and are happy with the teams that will represent the GSFL.
“Local football could not be any better, it is very healthy,” Correll said.
“The under 17s look very strong and there is no doubt the under 15s will give a good account of themselves.
“Junior football all round is fantastic with the lads being in very capable hands with the coaches that have been appointed.
“Under 18 coach at South Adelaide Robbie Neill and junior operations officer Alex Burrowes and GSFL Life Member Terry Thompson have all been part of the preparations for the big game.
“There is so much depth in both teams and many youngsters who have played in these games are now playing quality A grade football and at A grade association level,” Correll said excitedly.
A grade coach Barry Pilmore is another who is excited at the talent at his disposal and says the training and response from players has been pleasing.
“We will have good height in Daniel Wright and Sam Jones and the players are young and will have a go.
“Mypolonga is a big ground and we will need speed.
“There is a good attitude amongst the group and the new people involved in the selection are excited with the opportunity they have been given and there is a lot of enthusiasm.
“The players feel the same way,” Pilmore said.
