FOOTBALL: Four Great Southern Football League players Jake Harris ( Mount Compass), Michael Balas (McLaren), Jordan Francis (Yankalilla) and Billy Hogben (Yankalilla) have just returned from an intensive training camp with the SANFL under 16 country talented player squad.
Held last Saturday and Sunday at Immanuel College the program is designed to identify and assist in the development of the talented underage footballer under the guidance of under 16 state coach Darel Hart.
A squad of approximately 36 players was invited to participate in the camp where they trained and played a game with and against their talented peers.
Particular emphasis was placed on improving skill techniques and being able to demonstrate these techniques in a pressure situation.
Players also took part in physiological and skill testing that will allow them to compare their performance against other elite players.
The SANFL hopes that this program will be successful in allowing the individual player to develop those motor and cognitive skills that are so essential in progressing along the elite pathway to senior ranks.
All players will now continue their preparation for the upcoming under 16 season before a second camp in April.
Currently there are 21 under 16 players training at the Panthers.
