Reunion for 1989 premiers

30 Jul, 2009 08:57 AM
FOOTBALL: The Encounter Bay Football Club will have a premiership reunion on Saturday for it’s A grade and Reserves sides that proved unstoppable 20 years ago.

The A grade was captain coached by Bob Beecroft and the reserves was coached by Phil Harding.

Many characters will be returning to the club for the big day with president of the club at the time Geoff Stock conducting proceedings.

Encounter Bay smashed Willunga in the A grade grand final of 1989 - 24-13 (157) to the Demons 14-13 (97).

Best players were Bob Beecroft who kicked eight goals, Lyndon Elsworthy, Brenton Little, Jamie Ainsworth and David Broadbent.

The club had the true characters of Great Southern Football playing the game in Greg Brand, Daryl Rady, Andrew Chigwidden, Ken Ruge, Andrew Horrocks, James Guy, Tony Davis, and Stephen Crane.

It will be a day to remember, as the Bays were the kings of the GSFL.

Encounter Bay plays Myponga/Sellicks at home.
