FOOTBALL: Former Glenelg star Paul Sherwood will coach Langhorne Creek in 2010.
The 190 game veteran played for the Hawks in 2009 and had a great year at centre half back being named in The Times Team of the Year.
“I am excited at the opportunity I have been given and it is great the club has given me a chance,” Sherwood said.
“I am looking forward to getting stuck into it and get the guys fit,” he added.
Preseason for the Creek will commence in early January and Sherwood will be playing coach with former league ruckman Richard Crosby as assistant coach.
Anthony Murgatroyd has been appointed director of coaching, also assisting on the bench.
“The bench is covered with heaps of experience, as I have no illusions how hard it will be to play and coach at the same time.
“I am fortunate to have a group that has played together for awhile and we will be planning to play the way I want,” Sherwood said.
“There is a great mixture of youth and senior players with Moorey (Ben Moore) and Randall Follett showing leadership on the field,” he said.
President Roger Follett is pleased with the appointment.
“Paul’s extensive knowledge and league experience will be invaluable to our young list and he will play a major role in the other grades.
“Paul and his family are moving to Mount Barker and his presence around the club will have a great impact.
“He is a terrific player and person, these qualities are what every club strives for,” Follett said.
“Anthony Murgatroyd has been appointed director of coaching and this will complement Paul, as he oversees all grades,” he added.
