Festive fun on the water

06 Jan, 2010 07:25 AM
YACHTING: Four fun filled evenings of competitive sailing at Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club (GRYC) saw a fleet of 28 boats in four divisions test their skills against each other in the South Coast Marine Christmas Twilight Series.

Visitors joined yachts from near and far and old rivals worked extremely hard to ensure that the contest was tight and challenging.

The courses varied from night to night keeping skippers on their toes and crews busy adjusting ropes and fine tuning the sails.

Wind conditions varied, including some very light breezes, but the length of the courses was maintained and most finished within the required limits.

The fellowship after each race was enjoyed by sailors and families and a highlight was the ‘Wet & Wild’ film night in aid of Sailability on December 29, 90 people attended and were treated to spectacular viewing of sailing around the world.

The start line is usually a great place to witness the skills of sailors in tight waters and the courage they exhibit in the knowledge of where their boats will fit.

A ‘come and try’ day will be held on January 16 from 9.30am-3.30pm and all interested sailors and ‘might be’ sailors are welcome.

The Sailablity boats will also be available for those sailors with a disability. If more information is required please contact Don Richardson on 0418275376.

Yachties are also reminded of the regatta weekend at the end of January and can check the GRYC website for further details and nomination forms.
