200+ crew consisted of Bryn Bridges sweep and rowers in Mark Williams, Stewart Cummings, Mark Cox and Tony Hall to follow their results throughout the season in the Masters division also bringing home gold for the club.

Women’s 120+ crew consisted of Troy Irvin sweep and rowers in Tara Irvin, Natalie Gilbert, Penny Smith and Karina Overall, they rowed well in their division considering they were actually a 140+ crew and finished with a bronze for the club.

A great day was had by all competitors and it was a stepping stone towards the Senior State Championships and the Australian championships which are both being contested throughout March.

JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to everyone who competed on the day, it was great to see so many nippers competing and not just the carnival kids as club championships is all about participation, fun and giving new kids the opportunity to see what it is like to be a competitive surf life saver.

Highlights in the under 8-9 girls included a tussle between Anna Keen and Emily De Michelle in most events. Congratulations also to Hannah Fretter who was a solid performer with top three placings in three events.

In the boys there was even more of a close tussle between Max Harry and Marcus Lippett, Matthew Read was also consistent in that age group.

In the under 10-11 arena Natasha McMahon showed her beach talent by winning the sprints and backing that up with a third in flags. Taylor Bohnsack won the swim and placed in four other events while carnival kids Maddie Turley and Alice Harry placed in every event including Alice winning the flags.

In the boys Oska Bloomfield won boards and sprints, Henry Wedd won the swim and flags with solid and consistent performances given by Patrick Cooper and Rueben Moore.

In the biggest age group, under 12-13-14, Jamie Buchanan proved her force in the water arena taking out the boards, swim and ironperson. State team member Rachel Lippett won the sprints while Lisa Morden won the flags. Grace Gilbert placed in almost every event giving a strong and consistent performance. Congratulations to the four girls who stayed to complete the Ironperson Jamie, Grace, Lisa and Tayla.

In the boys the Charlie’s dominated with Charlie Mason winning the swim and boards and Charlie Heaslip won the ironperson and sprints.

The end result for club championships will be announced on the final day of nippers, presentation day to be held from 1.30-3pm on March 13.

Thanks to everyone who made club championships possible by helping to set up, do official duties, age group managers and anyone else who helped on the day, very much appreciated.

Generation's of Overall's keep doing it for PE SLSC - extraordinary and I think their are some other families still answering the call and enjoying the beach and surf life style of their forbears. Chris Tapscott a classmate from kinder in The Old Cong Hall with Mrs Jolly and continuing to lead the local community participaticipating as a life long learner and creating the same opportunities for others in the local community not to mention his long tenure at the former and new PE Primary Schools. So very pleased to read sometime back that The Old School is to become an aged care facility. What a much needed town facility and verily past pupils; many in their 80's and a handful in their 90's who might get to spend their 'late in the day days in situ. How lovely. . . full circle!
