GOLF: Jeff Trimmer of Goolwa has been a member of the South Lakes Golf Club for 11 years and been playing golf for over 40.
On Wednesday June 10 on the 10th hole par three, Jeff struck a ball that you “hit once every three months”.
The ball journeyed over the 170 metres and landed in the hole to give Jeff his first hole in one in competition.
“It was a good one off the stick.
“I put my five iron in the bag knowing I hit it well, but you do not imagine after all the years that it will be a hole in one,” Jeff said.
“As we walked to the green I knew it had gone in, as I saw the plug mark two metres before the hole.
“It had been a long wait and a lot of luck was involved.
“There was skill on hitting the shot, but luck in the ball dropping in the hole.
“My playing partners were very chuffed,” Jeff said.
Jeff now has tenancy of the hole in one mug at the South Lakes Golf Club, which Jeff is so proud to be part of.
“The golf club is the most sociable and inclusive golf club I have been associated with and I look forward to playing in the Saturday competition and every second Wednesday,” he added.
Jeff has a handicap of five and is part of a golfing family with his son and daughter-in-law playing and wife Margo the current women’s president at the South Lakes Golf Club.
Jeff is very easy going about the accomplishment and recalls scoring a hole in one socially 20 years ago, which “had me jumping and down”, but certainly hopes that luck will again come his way at the golf club he calls home.
