GOLF: Harry Sherrah is only 15 years of age and he is wild about golf and golf is wild about him!
The youngster has only been playing golf for one year and his handicap is down to nine already.
Harry practices every day and is now an addict of the great game.
“I am right into the sport, I love playing the game, the challenge, the feeling of playing that good shot and it is much easier on the body than competitive sports,” Harry said.
Harry competed in the 72 Hole Junior Open at Grange and Kooyonga on January 22.
In the second round at Kooyonga, Harry raised eyebrows when he shot nine under his handicap.
“I shot a 75 off the stick, which is a nett 63 and it would be the best round of golf I have played considering I had never seen or played the course before,” he said.
Harry finished runner-up in the Junior Summer Trophy (nett for the Kooyonga 36 hole event).
Harry returned to his favourite course at the Victor Harbor Golf Club on January 24 and hit a very impressive 47 stableford points, which was 73 off the stick.
“I had to birdie the last hole to be one over off the stick and I did that.
“It pleased me so much to come back to my home course and play like that.
“My ultimate goal would be to play on the US Tour regularly,” Harry dreams.
In the meantime, Harry plans to keep working with Gavin Stratfold, the professional at the Victor Harbor Golf Club, to get his handicap down.
“My goal for 2010 is to be a scratch golfer by the end of the year.
“I would not be able to achieve everything I am doing without the great support from Mum and Dad, the Victor Harbor Golf Club, my coach Gavin and the other professionals at the club,” Harry said thankfully.
After only one year and the giant steps Harry is making in golf, it would be hard to see the determined 15 year old fail in his quest to get his handicap down to scratch by the end of 2010.
The naturally talented golfer has already dropped his handicap an incredible 27 strokes in 12 months.
Harry has developed from the junior program at the Victor Harbor Golf Club with three other lads coming through in Dillon Huppatz, Patrick Monaghan and Ethan Ellis.
