Chiton Rocks helps the community

SURF LIFESAVING: Chiton Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club is currently running a three-year 'Breakaway' program.

Supported by the Office for Youth, the program is aimed at engaging marginalised and disadvantaged young people in the community.

The club's aim is to connect them to the community and create a positive pathway through the avenue of surf lifesaving.

Breakaway is currently run in partnership with Multicultural Youth SA (MYSA) and has connected Sudanese refugees with volunteer mentors, who are responsible for running the program and act as positive role models to participants.

Breakaway also provides the opportunity for participants to learn about water safety and become part of Australia's iconic beach culture.

The program has so far been a huge success, with enthusiastic reports from all participants in this weekend's surfing session.

Chiton Rocks is currently seeking additional volunteer mentors to support the program, interested individuals are encouraged to email breakaway@chitonrocks.com for further information.
