ARCHERY: Victor Harbor’s Pat Coghlan is preparing for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and has just received South Australian Sport Institute (SASI) and Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarships.
The scholarships will assist the number one ranked Australian Compound Bow archer to travel to tournaments all around the world.
Pat is also ranked number five in the world and number one in the Commonwealth.
“In February I have a tournament in Las Vegas, Croatia in April, Turkey in May, back to the United States in June, Hungary in July, China in August, Scotland in September and then a training camp in Singapore.
“It will be the ideal preparation for the Commonwealth Games,” Pat said.
The downside is Pat will be away from his family, as besides the international travel, he also travels to Canberra for training camps, which involve eight three day weekends over the next three months.
“It is a very busy schedule, but it is what we have been working towards for over the past three years.
“It is the first time Compound Bow has been in the Commonwealth Games and it is going to be a big honour to represent my country,” Pat said.
Pat’s work ethic and commitment is the secret to his success, as he currently trains at a property at Inman Valley from 6.30am to 9.30am every morning.
His sights are set so he can guarantee selection in the Open Men’s Compound Bow at the Commonwealth Games later this year and not only represent Australia, but the Fleurieu as well.
