A new local produce market will launch at Mount Compass in October. Market committee chairman, John Hague, said he hopes it will attract Fleurieu residents and those travelling on Victor Harbor Road.

A determined group of Mount Compass residents has made a successful bid to hold a monthly local produce market.

The market, which will make its debut on Saturday, October 4, is a project by the town's community progress association.

The chairman of the market committee, John Hague, has lived in Compass for 11 years. He said he hopes the market will attract Fleurieu residents and those travelling on Victor Harbor Road.

So far about 20 local producers have indicated their interest in being involved in the markets.

Produce will include fruit and vegetables, honey, olive oil, venison, wine, eggs and craft.

"We hope as the markets are held, we will pick up new traders," Mr Hague said.

If you are interested in volunteering at the markets phone John on 8556 8391 or 0419 845 909.

Application forms for stalls will be available soon.
