God's waiting room tag a myth

VICTOR HARBOR - The gag Victor Harbor is 'God's waiting room' seems to be wearing thin, as an increasing number of people in the area say they do not identify with a religion.

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics census shows 26.7 per cent of people living in the postcode of 5211 identify as having "no religion". This compares to 20.3 per cent in the 2001 census.

The Uniting Church had the greatest percentage drop in the area, going from 19.1 per cent in 2001, to 13.7 per cent last year.

The percentage figures for Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican were relatively stable.
