Holden vs Ford in rare Clipsal 500 Adelaide exhibition

A collection of rare and original Holden and Ford vehicles will be on display at this year’s Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said there would be more than 50 attractions – on and off the track - and one of the most unique would be a collection of Holdens and Fords.

“The display includes unmodified originals which have been maintained or restored to showroom condition, with many rarely seen out in public,” Mr Bignell said.

“The exhibition is a tribute to our motoring history and the rivalry which has divided motorsport lovers for decades.”

Inspecting some of the vehicles at the Clipsal track today, Mr Bignell was accompanied by legendary V8 Supercar driver Russell Ingall.

“Adelaide's Russell Ingall competed in Fords and Holdens throughout his stellar career and drove for both Pro Drive Racing and the Holden Racing Team last season.”

With more than 10 years in a Holden Commodore and crowned 2005 V8 Supercar Championship in a Stone Brothers Ford Falcon, Mr Ingall said he was well acquainted with both.

“They are such great iconic cars and they really sparked Australian’s passion for motorsport and our overall love for cars,” he said.

“I’ve seen a few different Holdens and Fords in my day and it’s going to be fantastic to see a display like this. It is sure to bring back some memories.”

Mr Bignell said the Clipsal 500 was famous for its action packed schedule.

“There is the traditional rivalry on the track as well an impressive concert line-up featuring Rob Thomas, the return of the Toyo Tires Stadium Super Trucks and EnduroX, to name just a few.”

Tickets are now on sale for the 2016 Clipsal 500 Adelaide.
