Victor Harbor, McLaren Vale and Kangaroo Island have been named in the top 50 small towns and districts in Australia.
The list, Australia’s 50 Top Small Towns, was compiled by website discountmyflights.com.au
Send in your photos, taken in the Victor Harbor region, and we will add it to our gallery above. Email email@example.com with ‘Top Towns’ in the subject line.
The site says: “It’s easy to marvel at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne’s beaches backed by skyscrapers, but travelers who only explore Australia’s largest cities are missing out on what truly makes the country tick”.
“It’s Australia’s small towns and villages that showcase the country’s diverse culture, from the dry, dusty Outback to the rugged wilderness of Sorell and Beauty Point, Tasmania.”
Although the site hasn’t quite nailed the details of Victor Harbor’s Granite Island, which does not have an operational cafe, and no longer has an “an abundance” of ‘fairy penguins’ (also, their correct name is now Little Penguins, and the population has been in severe decline).
The site says people should visit Victor Harbor to enjoy riding the tram to the island or the cockle train along the coast, McLaren Vale for “the wine and the people (who love wine) and want you to have an unbeatable personal experience”, and Kangaroo Island for “nature, wildlife and incredible coastlines, Kangaroo Island will refresh your soul”.
