A LOCAL organic winery in McLaren Flat is changing the way they bring their wine to the customer by launching into a Tupperware party-style method that is quickly gaining traction.
Although ShowBlock at Home was launched only a couple of years ago, the winery’s co-owner Sarae Adamopoulos said it was just starting to become really popular now.
She said with limited resources at the winery itself, her and her husband John, who is the winemaker, needed to find a way to still get people tasting their wines.
“We bring the cellar door to them – everyone has such a good time,” she said.
Starting out as grape growers, Mr and Mrs Adamopoulos did not realise the value of their vineyards and of organically-grown grapes until they bottled a cabernet sauvignon under the ShowBlock label in 2009.
The range then expanded in 2010, which was the same year they represented their own label at Vinitaly, one of the most recognised international wine competitions.
And in 2014, ShowBlock debuted in the Halliday Companion as a five-star winery.
Mrs Adamopoulos, who comes from a naturopathy background, said it all started because her and her husband just loved being able to create a product they enjoyed and could share with their friends.
“Everything’s been a transition,” she said.
She said the thought process behind bringing wine into peoples homes and having free tastings was also a way to build relationships and the brand.
“It’s just such a beautiful experience – wine is supposed to be enjoyed with people,” she said.
Mr Adamopoulos said the personal style of the winery also ran deeper than ShowBlock at Home, right back into the winemaking process.
“We take it a step further – we believe that the intent, the love and the attention to detail are so unique here,” he said.
“People talk about carbon footprints and all that, but we just enjoy working the vineyard by hand and letting nature do its thing.”
