Aldinga Beach/Rapid Bay:
The debris and silt are finally starting to clear on the north-western coast of Fleurieu Peninsula and the bigger snapper (up to a very nice 12kgs) have finally arrived at the main drops out from Aldinga beach and Lady Bay. Wirrina has KG whiting, squid and tommies, while night-time fishing at Rapid Bay jetty has good tommy ruff action and some big squid.
Salmon trout have shown up at the back of the surf and in the deeper gutters as the water clears, many taking soft plastics as bait.
Some reasonably good-sized squid have been hauled in from The Bluff and Screwpile Jetty, while boats that managed to launch last Wednesday caught garfish, squid and tommies.
Salmon trout, mullet (inside the river mouth itself) and night-time mulloway have been the reports from the river and further south to Salt Creek. Goolwa beach is also well worth a try for mulloway in the late evenings.
Greg James’ seafood recipe: Salmon with kaffir lime and lemon
Ingredients: 1 whole fillet of salmon, 1 lemon, 2 kaffir lime leaves, 1 lemongrass stick, bunch of fresh coriander.
Preparation: preheat oven to 180C and place salmon fillet on a large sheet of foil. Top with sliced lemon, lime leaves, lemongrass and coriander. Season with salt and pepper and wrap fish completely in the foil. Bake for 30 mins. Serve with a cool glass of dry white wine and a fresh Spring salad.
Tight lines and see you next week!
