GOOLWA – Cancer battles by family members and friends have inspired two Goolwa women to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave this year.

Kelly Yannikelis and Donna Stone will be shaving their heads on Sunday, March 5 to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation through the annual campaign.

“I dye my hair and I was saying to Kelly that I wanted to go back to my natural colour,” Ms Stone said.

“She said, ‘Why not do the World’s Greatest Shave and raise money for the foundation?’”

The pair hope to raise as much money as possible, and have already collected more than $400.

They held a stall outside Saltwater Cafe late last year, and on the day of the shave they will have Greek cakes and biscuits to sell.

“The whole idea is to raise money to help in some small way because it’s something we’ve both gone through with family and friends,” Mrs Yannikelis said.

“It’s not going to bring our loved ones back but it will hopefully help someone going through it.”

Local hairdresser Taryn from JaDs will “do the deed” of shaving their heads at around 1.30pm outside Urban Instinct on Cadell Street, and Stacey B Photography will be taking videos and photos on the day.

“We want as many people as possible to watch and donate,” Mrs Yannikelis said.

Their team is called Pinky and Purky – to donate, search the team name on www.worldsgreatestshave.com
