Willunga won the toss and elected to bat in the A grade preliminary final against Encounter Bay. Franceschini started well and played a couple of glorious drives off Magor before the young bowler had his revenge when he had him caught at slip.

Magor followed that up by picking up the wicket of Willunga captain Docking for 0. Harding and Goldner survived through to the drinks break. Butler came out breathing fire and picked up Harding and Goldner both to the first balls they faced after drinks to have his side right on top with Willunga 4/40.

Brown and Williamson looked to steady before Moller picked up Brown for 5 and then deceiving Williamson to have him stumped for 22 and the Demons 6/75. Hoppo and the evergreen Elliott guided their side safely to tea without further loss with the score 6/82 at the main break.

After tea the stubborn resistance from Willunga continued as the pair moved the score past 100 before Moller picked up Hoppo for 30. McIvor joined Elliot and they contiued to frustrate the Bay bowlers before Butler removed McIvor with the score 8/134.

Tye McIvor came to the crease and supported Elliot well as they found the occasional boundary to keep the score ticking over.

Finally Moller had McIvor caught and bowled before trapping McNicol in front two balls later to end Willunga’s innings at 165. Moller the best with the ball picking up five wickets while Butler and Magor both bowled well picking up three and two wickets respectively.

Elliott the top scorer for the Demons with 39 not out.

Day two started with Sean McIvor and Goldner pushing hard for an early breakthrough. It was to Goldner who struck first dismissing Pacitti and Singh was bowled by McIvor to have the Bays at 2/30. Matt Overall strode to the crease to join Carlyle.

The Bay batsmen got on top during the second session keeping out some good bowling while capitalising on anything over pitched taking the score to 2/80 at tea.

After tea things continued in the same vein before a brain fade from Carlyle caused him to run past a Bruce Elliott delivery to be stumped for 48 with the score at 109. Hoffmann joined Overall and together they looked to continue the flow of runs, before Hoffmann chopped onto his stumps to leave they Bays 4/141 with 25 still needed.

Sam Overall joined his brother and got within 10 runs of victory before the younger brother played one straight back to Sean McIvor to be run out with some clever work from the bowler.

Matt took things upon himself in the next over dispatching Tye McIvor over the square leg boundary for six before finishing the job with another boundary to take his side to another grand final appearance. Overall finished with 87 not out for the Bays, well supported by Carlyle with 48. Sean McIvor bowled 32 overs to finish with 1/77.
