The Great Southern Basketball Association continues to show the strength of its junior program after the under 12 boys team won the state championships.
Thanks to expert coaching from Boyd Fitton and Ryan Stewart, the boys were able to take out the division one grand final with a 44-23 win against Port Augusta.
The carnival was held in Adelaide on March 25 and 26.
The Slammers team is made up of players from various Great Southern teams, and they all showed great team work throughout the carnival.
The winning side consisted of Ken Angus, Kody Muirhead, Lincolin Priddle, Jake Overall, Will Zanker, Rory Hudson and Matawai Scarvelis and Will Fitton.
The boys played good consistent team basketball across the weekend. Their coaches were proud of how the boys handled themselves throughout the carnival, but particularly in the final.
They stood up to the pressure of the big game and proved that Great Southern has some exciting young talent to come up through the ranks in the future.
The carnival was made possible by a great number of volunteers throughout the weekend.
The carnival was sponsored by City Holden, Sports Centre and Spalding, allowing Country Basketball SA to keep nomination fees to a minimum and put on a quality of the event.
Forestville, Sturt and Southern Tigers clubs provided support through canteen and barbecue facilities at the venues.
The Great Southern Basketball season starts again soon.
