Yankalilla women had the bye on the weekend, but Victor Blue women had a resounding win defeating Aldinga Blue 4-1.
Played at Aldinga, Victor’s forwards in Mel Pryor, Heather Cass and Nat Gibbs used good skill to move in and around the Aldinga defence constantly putting them under pressure. This pressure resulted in goals by Nat and Heather in the first half.
Morgan Gomer cleared the ball well out of defence and Fiona Fryer and Lizzie Sherrah worked well together to move the ball forward for Aldinga. Madison Richter was strong in the half back line with the support of Tammie Burford and Liz Richter.
Liz Richter sealed the win with two short corner goals in the second half of the game.
Aldinga scored their goal in the second half through a sneaky ball into the circle catching Victor off guard and Fiona Fryer was able to put the ball over the line.
In other games of hockey on the weekend Yankalilla were able to help out Goolwa with their surplus of players in the under 10 game so that Goolwa and Aldinga Blue could have a game, leaving six Yankalilla girls making an expressive show of team play against Victor Blue.
In the under 13 game Yankalilla very quickly got scores on the board with goals from Cole and Finn, before Victor Blue started to get some passes away to get the ball into their attacking zone. However, Yankalilla’s defence maintained their composure and sent the ball back out to the mid field and back down the ground.
Yankalilla’s Kayla Cosma controlled the play, Lexi Clarke worked hard on the forward line and Ruby Clarke ran well with the ball. Victor’s defence fought hard all game, Tom Roberts was stoic in goals, fullbacks Nick Wood and Reece Miller ran hard all game and Ashleigh Smith made good leads to get the ball out of the backlines.
Annika and Eddie Hancock had a couple of runs with the ball. The Williams boys used their skills to score for Yankalilla and in his first hockey match Jackson Gillespi also scored a goal. Ash Tuck scored for Victor.
Aldinga Black lost to Victor White in under 13. Hassan Singh's two goals provided the impetus for the win. Aldinga's Katey Elliot and Emma Gregg were solid all game. Amelia Lewis and Piper Hudson were consistent in defence with Huntar Walton providing them with solid back up.
New players Billy Richter and Trinity Law tried hard all game and are improving every week.
In under 16 Yankalilla lost to Victor Blue.
