Indigenous women to speak in Canberra

REGION – Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie will welcome two representatives at the National Indigenous Youth Parliament next week. Ashleigh Darrie, 19 of Encounter Bay and Kaitlin Purcell, 20 of Strathalbyn will be among 50 participants selected by the Australian Electoral Commission for the leadership program. They will meet with Members of Parliament and the Governor-General in Canberra.

Kaitlin is an Indigenous trainee with the South Australian Police, studying a Certificate 3 in Business. Ashleigh won the 2017 Victor Harbor Young Citizen of the Year Award and works for the Alexandrina Council. Ashleigh also received the Ngarrindjeri Nation NAIDOC Female Youth of the Year Award in 2016.
