GOOLWA – Fishers and boat operators are urged to take care around the Murray Mouth as more water is released through Goolwa Barrage from Thursday, May 18.

DEWNR water resource operations manager Jarrod Eaton said gradual increasing water releases will take place until Tuesday, May 23.

“The action is being taken to take advantage of lower tidal conditions to maximise scouring of sand from the Murray Mouth, which will improve connectivity between the river and the Southern Ocean,” he said.

“Flows will be faster through the channel and at the Mouth during this period. Take care when walking near the edge of the channels near the Mouth.”

A maximum 15 gigalitres a day is predicted over the weekend, before releases return to about 2GL a day between June and August.
