REGION – Southern football can add another acclaim to the board: the winner of South Australia’s first ever women’s football league representative match.

The game against Murray South East was held as a curtain-raiser to the men’s SA Country Championships final at Johnstone Park, Murray Bridge on Sunday, July 9.

Co-coach Andy Coulter said the first half was a strong tussle, but Southern was able to break away and win by 46 points – MSE 0.1 (1) to Southern 7.5 (47). Willunga ruck Elke Jarvis was voted best on ground for Southern, while Danielle Daish won MSE’s award.

“The girls loved it, and they said they wanted to keep going with it,” Coulter said.

“It was a pretty good show.”
