Weather conditions were pretty bad at the start of play at the Bay Oval, and they quickly got worse. Any semblance of good footy was impossible. Bays started with the wind but did not make use of the advantage kicking 1.4.
The second term saw Strath playing old fashioned wet weather footy much better than Bays. They kicked long and straight with goals to Elliot, Christie, Simounds and McDonald. Bays’ young quick players were negated by the weather and the half time scores were Strath 6.2 to Bays 1.5.
The rain got heavier, the ground muddier and the wind stronger in the third term. No goals were scored and no-one wanted to be there including the spectators who all headed indoors. The ball hardly moved as Strath kicked two points. Encounter Bay never even went forward.
The last term was a little better with Strath adding two goals while Karpany snapped one for Bays. The game thankfully finished with no-one watching or caring. Frozen players headed for the showers with final scores Strath 8.10 to Bays 2.8.
Bays’ young players found the heavy conditions tough going, but Schindler and Bonnes handled things better than most.
Strath played much better than the Bays in the wet and difficult conditions with Simounds, Munn, Elliot and Christie all scoring.
