The junior soccer season has finished on a high in Port Elliot with the Southern Breakers being awarded the Noarlunga Districts Junior Soccer Association (NDJSA) Fair Play Club Award and long-time coach Vonnie Van Oevelen awarded Life Membership for her dedication to junior coaching at both club and district level.
At the recently held NDJSA award night the club’s under 14 team were presented with the League Championship Award. The under 13s were runner up in their League and the under 11s took out the double – being both League and Cup Champions. The under 14s also finished as runner Up in their Cup competition. Locally, the club held their presentation day in September.
The Inaugural Duncan Barnett Memorial Junior Club Person award was jointly won by Harry Jones and Aedan Boundey.
In under 18 – Coaches Award – Daniel Sue, under 14 – Best and Fairest Ben Roberts, runner up Ella Simon, Players Player Harry Jones and Max Burgess, Coaches Award Nic Barnett, under 13 – Players Player Landyn Beaton, runner up Khai Hird and Fletcher Brunt, Coaches Award Judd O’Donnell, under 12 - Best and Fairest Zach Palmer, runner up Tiger Jones and Kingsley Anderson, Most Improved Riley Pitman and Jaiden Lang, Coaches Award Luke Humphris, under 11 Best and Fairest Tom Barnett, Players Player Jake Ashcroft, Coaches Award Finn Porteous, under 10 Blue – Best and Fairest Oscar Kacirek and Charlie Kacirek, Coaches Award Daniel Sue, U10 Orange – Best and Fairest Eddy Yeoward, runner up Riley North, Coaches Award Demi Tretheway.
Southern Breakers players were also well represented on the same day at the Seaford Soccer Club presentation day with Aedan Boundey winning the Best and Fairest JPL under 14 player, Ben Roberts winning the under 14 JLP Players Player award and Harry Jones and Nic Barnett the two under 14 Coach Awards.
The Southern Breakers undefeated under 11 team played Morpett Vale in the finals.
Charlie Humphris was the first to score with a tremendous lob. The next goal came from a well-placed corner from Tom Barnett that resulted in an own goal. Finn Porteous showed great speed and skill and was rewarded with a thrilling goal.
Tom Barnett managed to get the fourth and final goal for the game to make it an exciting 4-0 win. Coach Ben Ashcroft couldn’t be any prouder of the team that showed true Breaker team spirit.
The Southern Breakers under 11 team made it a clean sweep in 2017.
