PORT ELLIOT – The 139th annual Port Elliot Show will take place this weekend at the showgrounds in Cameron Street, Port Elliot.

The two day show to be held on Saturday, October 7, and Sunday, October 8, promises to be a huge event with record entries in many of the exhibit categories.

A record 1178 entries have been received this year for indoor exhibits including cookery, cake decorating, craft, junior art, woodwork and needlework and this number beats the previous record of 946 entries.

Vice president and indoor co-coordinator of the Port Elliot Show Sue Thomas said she was delighted to have received so many entries this year.

“This record number of entries clearly indicates that regional shows are such an integral part of a community and the interest in our Port Elliot Show just continues to grow,” Ms Thomas said.

“We have such a good volunteer support network and a strong community base in this region; it proves that local residents, community groups and schools love to be involved.

“It is a day for the whole family and the history of this show is one to be proud of.”

The Port Elliot Show was last year cancelled due to sodden grounds caused by weeks of heavy rain leading up to the event.

But this year's show promises to be a bumper one with an exciting continuous program of entertainment, side shows, horses in action, dog trials, numerous trade and community based organisation sites, pavilions brimming with record entries in so many indoor categories and all the usual fun of the fair.

Roving entertainers, an animal farm, free entry to the Port Elliot Museum, which is housed within the  show grounds and cattle, sheep and poultry are just some of the attractions that show goers will be able to see and do at this year's show.

A highlight in entertainment is the appearance of the lovable Humphrey B Bear, who will be amuse both young and old on the Sunday, while Darren the comedy stuntman will be performing on the Saturday.

The show will be officially opened on Saturday at 12noon by Member for Hammond Adrian Pederick.
