Strathalbyn Football Club’s Kaitlin Purcell is enjoying working as the head trainer for the SA Hounds team at the National Police Football Championships.

Purcell, who has travelled from her new home in Roxby Downs, was the first female head trainer for SA in 2016.

“Because of what I learned last year in regards to coaching and training, the networks I built, and the good time I had, I decided to return this year,” Purcell said.

She manages, treats, and prevents sporting injuries to the players through sports taping, first aiding and remedial massage, and ensuring they are hydrated during the game and treated at the end of the game. She also see female trainer Joy Gelly – someone Purcell looks up to – in action during the carnival.

“Aussie rules is something I am very passionate about and to have the opportunity to not only volunteer at a state level but also work with and under other state coaches and trainers is something no courses can pay for.”
