The Victor Harbor Archery Club will be hosting the South Australian leg of the National Matchplay Series on January 13 and 14, 2018.
The event is one of the important archery events on Archery Australia’s calendar and attracts top archers from all over Australia.
It is not only a great event for the Victor Harbor Archery Club, but also provides a boost in attracting interstate visitors to the Victor Harbor region.
Matchplay is an exciting form of archery developed by World Archery to create an event both appealing and spectator-friendly.
Victor Harbor Archery Club has hosted this event over the last few years and guarantees an exciting time for both archers and spectators alike.
If anyone is interested in archery or thinking of taking up the sport, this event will definitely be a positive influence on your decision-making.
The Matchplay will be conducted as an open event with no age divisions.
Archers using Compound bows compete on Saturday, January 13 and Recurve archers on Sunday, January 14.
Qualifying or ranking rounds will be conducted before each competition begins and then it is a process of elimination.
For all Matchplay, competitors are ranked using a Pairing Chart, which has the highest ranked archer initially matched against the lower ranked, second highest against the second lowest and so on.
The Pairing Chart lists the progression through the tournament with the winners of each match progressing from match to match through the competition.
At all stages for the Matchplay, recurve archers shoot at 70 metres on a 122 cm target face and compound archers shoot at 50 metres on an 80 cm, six zone target face.
There is never a dull moment!
Keeping with tradition the catering ladies of the Victor Harbor Archery Club will be at the event with many delightful and indulgent treats to keep everyone happy and energetic.
A BBQ lunch will also be available with plenty of drinks to quench the thirst.
Hopefully temperatures in 2018 will be reasonable rather than the 40 degree heat experienced at this year’s tournament.
The Matchplay Series will be conducted on the Victor Harbor Archery Club outdoor range on Back Valley Road, Lower Inman Valley.
Both days of competition will begin with practice at 9am and competition starting at 9.30am. It is time now for archers to take up the challenge and register their interest. Spectators are also welcome to view proceedings at any time.
The Victor Harbor Archery Club is open to all ages and has in its ranks archers who have competed at the highest level. The Victor Harbor Archery Club was established in 2013. For more information contact 0408 809 538.
