The South Lakes Golf Club’s women members held their annual Christmas Fun Day on Monday, December 4. This annual novelty golf event captures the spirit of Christmas - both having fun and giving. This year golfers played a 12 hole team game with each hole making unusual and creative demands on the players, who abandoned not only the traditional game, but traditional golfing attire for fancy dress based on the theme of Australiana. The winning team was The Joyful Joeys.
There was community singing of Australianised Christmas songs and a delicious Christmas lunch back in the club house. The club also celebrated the 90th birthday of club member, Joan Sando.
But the fun was accompanied by the serious aim of raising money and collecting non-perishable food items for St Vincent de Paul Christmas hampers. The raffle and other fundraising resulted in $440 being presented to Joe Ryan, representing Vinnies, as well as a trailer load of groceries to help many struggling local families this Christmas.
