The Whalers Peninsula Community Association (WPCA) in Goolwa has provided help to the region’s most vulnerable for many years, but as the group comes under increasing financial strain it is at risk of closing its doors for good.
Last November, volunteer manager Mary Mcinnes created a GoFundMe page to help the organisation survive, but an increasing workload has put the WPCA under pressure.
If elected this Saturday, Liberal candidate for Finniss David Basham said he would offer $45,000 to the vital organisation to help keep it going.
“Members of the WPCA have tried to fund the group themselves, but now it’s beyond them… the $45,000 would help them get back on their feet and continue the great work they do for the community,” he said.
“The WPCA does particularly good work in emergency housing response for people dealing with family violence and they’re just a very vital organisation for the region.”
