$125,000 for Crystal Brook Football Club

Exciting times are ahead for the Crystal Brook Football Club as it received a $125,000 grant from the State Government on Wednesday morning.

Minister for Tourism, Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell came to present the grant to the club along with the $10 million worth of grants being given out all over the state.

The grant money will support the $250,000 change room and facilities upgrade project which is a great step forward in the club’s future plans.

The new facilities will include men’s, ladies and disabled toilets, showers, an umpire’s room, storage space and a trainer’s room.

This will be built onto the back of the grandstand with the old toilet block being removed, opening the area for easier access.

Mr Bignell expressed his excitement for the project and how terrific it is to see a thriving sporting community.

He also stressed the importance of sport in rural areas and how happy he was to help.

“It’s the fabric of the community,” he said.

Club president Ian Lambert said that it will be of added value to all of the sporting groups in Crystal Brook, the Northern Areas Football Association, and even

Adelaide clubs who already use the facilities for training camps.

Mr Lambert said they are hoping to have the project finished and the facilities available for use in the 2015 season.

This inspiring asset for the club will encourage participation in all roles of the sport as a thriving club not only on the field, but in all community areas.

Expressing the club’s appreciation Mr Lambert said, “It’s a project that never would have got off the ground without this support and funding.”

He said the remaining funds necessary will come from club and council contribution and work in-kind.

With great joy the club will continue being an important mechanism for bringing people together and encouraging involvement in the community.
