Encouraging sustainable business and improving conditions for Indigenous Australians is what Greens endorsed candidate for the seat of Giles Alison Sentence is campaigning for in the lead up to the state election.
Ms Sentence said she believed that only the Greens could offer big picture thinking that was needed to unlock the true potential in the state's north west.
"People in the APY lands, and country areas all over the electorate need strong Greens representation so their voices are truly heard in Canberra," Ms Sentence said.
Ms Sentence said it was an exciting time for the electorate of Giles with the opportunity for employment growth and improved infrastructure to support this.
"Encouraging sustainable business is integral to South Australia's outback regions and is something I will fight for as the member for Giles," Ms Sentance said.
Ms Sentence previously ran for the seat of Grey in the federal election last year but said she had the passion and the experience to represent the voters of Giles.
"Throughout my professional life I have lived and worked across remote Australia, including in central Australia, in primary industries such as mining, land management and the pastoral sector," Ms Sentence said.
"This experience will allow me to truly represent the needs and aspirations of the people of Giles."
Ms Sentence has worked extensively with Indigenous communities throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.
She said her work with remote Indigenous communities, the mining industry and with pastoralists meant she understood the complex issues facing remote regions.
"As a land manager, I understand the threats facing the unique biodiversity and inland waters in arid environments," she said.
With the Greens, Ms Sentence said she would work for improved communications, better roads and more jobs and was determined to improve the living conditions of Indigenous Australians through access to education, health services and employment.
"I joined the Greens because they stand firm in the interests of our environment and are passionate about looking after people," Ms Sentence said.
"The Greens are working to create a more secure and caring society for people, whether they live in a city, regional centre, country town or in small outback communities."
