The McLaren Vale and Districts War Memorial Hospital will purchase a new blood fridge thanks to a $20,000 cheque presented by the Harvest Festival committee on Tuesday, March 15.
Accepting the donation, hospital board chair, Becky Hirst said: “Thank you Harvest Festival committee for a fantastic event”.
“It’s not just about fundraising for the hospital, it’s actually about putting on something really good for our community. You’re doing many good things all in one hit, so thank you very much.”
This year’s Harvest Festival was held on January 16 with a program designed to delight the 10,000 patrons.
It opened with the traditional blessing of the harvest followed by music, dancing, cooking demonstrations, food, wine and beer stalls, and non-stop entertainment for the children.
The celebrity wine spitting challenge was once again a hit with Member for Mawson, Leon Bignell, and Harvest chair Jeff Goodison battling it out to regain their past championships. Both were defeated.
“I’m practising hard for next year,” Mr Bignell quipped at the cheque presentation.
With plans already underway for 2017, it seems longevity is assured, which is good news for founding member, Joe Petrucci from Sabella Wines.
“We have this beautiful area; we have beautiful people, families, food, wine, and we are able to support the local hospital - this is what Harvest Festival is about,” he said.
