Food of provenance in Gourmet spotlight

Gourmet food will take centre stage at this year’s Barossa Gourmet Weekend.

This year’s program includes intimate tastings, exquisite dining experiences, masterclasses, lingering brunches, garden parties, picnics, platters and flame grilled feasts.

With 44 events, including nine Gourmet Trail events, it is a celebration showcasing authentic regional food of provenance sourced from local producers and accompanied by quality world-class wines.

Local designers Erica Brady and Kim Jericho of Brady & Co worked closely with the Tourism Barossa team to develop and create the look for this year’s Gourmet.

The end result is a striking take on spring in the Barossa – four images depicting fresh, seasonal produce which goes hand in hand with the Barossa’s premium wine.

Festival director Andrew Dundon said the ‘branding’ showcased the new approach for Gourmet in 2017.

“While the traditional focus for Gourmet Weekend has, and always will be, on the wine, this year is about celebrating the strong, authentic food culture that underpins the Barossa lifestyle,” he said.

“It’s a new Gourmet, a reflection of how Gourmet has evolved over the years.

“These images evoke a sense of enticement and will encourage people to make the connection between the region’s authentic food offerings and how they go hand in hand with premium wine.

“This year’s focus is on authentic Barossa experiences, and the new events coming through really celebrate the integrity and quality of the Barossa.

“It’s fresh, it’s exciting and it’s got that wow factor.”

An event with a guaranteed wow factor is Young and the Restless, featuring some of the Barossa’s freshest young producers who have been lured out of their back sheds and into the limelight for one night only.

It’s the ultimate way to kick off your Gourmet Weekend experience – it’s something a little unusual guaranteed to give you an unexpected taste for the new breed of Barossa.

Barossa Gourmet Weekend is perfect for wine enthusiasts, foodies and families wanting to discover the Barossa.
