Exciting day at Yankalilla for the penultimate round of hockey for the year.
There were four games being played with all teams fighting for a position in Saturday’s grand final.
The first match of the day was the under 13s where Victor White took on Aldinga Black. This was always going to be a tough game for both sides. The game began with Victor applying all the pressure through Hassan Singh and Jacob Haythorpe. Aldinga Black’s fast and skillful defence were able to fend away these early attacks.
Hassan then opened fire and started Victor’s goal scoring with several goals in quick succession. Zach and Piper for Victor tackled strong, but were unable to stop a strong play from Jack Elliot who scored for his team.
In the second half, Aldinga were awarded a penalty stroke which young goalie Adam Pain was able to save to the amazement of the crowd. Jacob Haythorpe for Victor scored two goals for his team in the second half to help seal the win. Victor White took the win and will now face Yankalilla in the grand final.
The under 16 game was between Victor Blue and Aldinga Black. This game was a very high scoring game and showcased some great skill and team plays by these talented sides. Sigourney Williams and Madison Richter held the Victor defence together, along with some great displays of goal keeping from Aimee Shepard.
Hassan Singh was on fire with seven goals in a fantastic individual performance. Aldinga also only had one goal scorer in Braydon Scheimd, who put four in the back of the net. Victor Blue will now face off against the very strong Victor White in the grand final.
The Women’s preliminary final was a battle between Yankalilla and Victor White.
This was a very even game especially in the first half, with no goals being scored. In the second half both sides came out with renewed vigour and put the pressure on immediately. Midway through the second half Victor’s Shirtiva Wells took the ball from the 25 yard line and worked the ball into the circle and slotted past the Yank goalie. This goal instantly fired up both sides and the intensity of the game rose. Victor White held on to win and will meet Victor Blue in Saturday’s grand final
Victor White took on Victor Blue in the Men’s preliminary final. The men put on an impressive display of hockey skills throughout the game with many jaw dropping moments from missed opportunities or impressive saves. Both sides went into the half time break scoreless.
In the second half Victor Blue broke the deadlock with a goal from Ryan Byrne. Victor White bounced back with an equaliser making the game exciting and intense. White found renewed power and took Blue by surprise, slotting away three goals to take the win and move into the grand final where the strong side of Aldinga Black awaits.
