Mount Compass can create some history on Saturday when they meet Willunga in the 2017 Great Southern Football League grand final.
The Dogs will be going for back to back A grade premierships after winning the 2016 flag against Encounter Bay. and after their resounding win in the second semi final, will start favourites.
In the second semi final, Willunga did not look anything like the side that had won the minor premiership as the best performed side during the minor round.
They were all at sea, with the possible exception of Joel Garrett, who is just getting better and better this finals campaign. The Dogs were destructive and won by 66 points and will have the confidence to do the job once again.
However, you have to marvel at what Willunga coach Steve Jaggard did in the space of seven days to get his team up and do what they did on Saturday to an in form Yankalilla.
Jaggard gave Haskett more freedom and I doubt very much we will see the finals hardened utility playing on the last line this week trying to control Mount Compass superstar Tom Pinyon. Haskett was everywhere on Saturday and he used all his weapons to bring his team mates into the game.
Jaggard will have to come up with a plan to restrict the influence of Mail Medallist Nathan Daniel, Green, Parsons and Camac and the service and rebound Tom Corbett, Brokenshire, Ritter and Vitkunas offer players up the ground.
As it should be in an A grade grand final, there will be no weak links in this match and if a team has one it will be exploited.
The big man power of both teams will be a treat; Willunga have Haskett, Standfield, Luke Collier and Thomas and the Dogs have Hoban, Pinyon, Hill, Creek and Prest. The Standfield/Hoban duel will be a beauty and the Dogs will have to have minders for Burdett and Garrett. Boyd, Beath and Sherry win plenty of the ball for the Demons and there is a lot to like of hard nosed defenders Paterson, Alexopoulos and James Collier.
Willunga have improved since their last meeting and found their mojo, but will it be enough to make up the 66 points and are they scarred from that encounter?
Kiss Of Death – Mount Compass by 7 points.
