Local Rotary Members from District 9520, which includes Fleurieu Rotary clubs, drove the Polio ute around the area to raise awareness on the fight to beat the disease.
Rotary’s aims is to facilitate the eradication of Polio from the world. There has been fund raising within local districts with the Polio Ute Relay coming from Broken Hill through Sunraysia, the Riverland, the Fleurieu and Adelaide.
Small outbreaks of Polio have the potential to spread quickly across the world and cause devastating consequences. The Poliovirus invades the nervous system and can cause total paralysis in a matter of hours. It can strike at any age but mainly affects children under the age of five.
Polio is incurable, but completely vaccine-preventable. Until Polio is eradicated, all countries remain at risk of outbreaks. Find out more and donate at www.poliouterelay.org
