South Adelaide has made some big appointments in the off season with Jarrad Wright as the Panthers next senior coach, Mark Clayton as the club's new Talent Manager and Under 18s coach and the acquisition of the club’s first women’s coach Krissie Steen..
Joining Wright on the Panthers senior coaching panel are Michael Handby and Josh Thewlis. While former Great Southern players Adam Blakely and Wade Foggo are also league assistants in South's new look coaching panel.
Panthers CEO Neill Sharpe said Wright has enjoyed premiership success in a variety of roles.
“Jarrad is familiar with the surrounds at Hickinbotham Oval, having spent four seasons with us as a player and two as a coach,” Sharpe said.
Also a talented player, Wright was drafted by the Brisbane Lions with pick 35 of the 2001 AFL National Draft after leading South Australia’s Under-18s. He spent two years on Brisbane’s list through their premiership successes of the early 2000s under the tutelage of the great Leigh Matthews.
The role of Talent Manager at South Adelaide contributes to the development of talented footballers throughout the South Adelaide zone, which includes the Great Southern Football League. Mark Clayton’s role oversees and manages the club’s Centre of Excellence Under 18 and Under 16 teams, development squads and youth girls programs.
"We are very confident Mark will continue to allow South Adelaide to deliver a very strong junior program that the southern region's youth will aspire to be a part of," Sharpe said.
Former Adelaide Crows premiership player, South league coach and Myponga/Sellicks A grade coach Clay Sampson will coach the under 16 side again in 2018.
Krissie Steen has an impressive resume of coaching experience working with both elite senior and junior programs in both South Australia and New South Wales, including time spent with the Western Bulldogs and GWS Giants women's teams.
Steen guided Adelaide University Football Club's women's team to an undefeated South Australian Women's Football League Division 1 premiership campaign.
