Member of the Zonta Club of Noarlunga Southern Vales Mary Colvill has been honoured with the Annual Southern Suburbs Volunteer Service Award.

As coordinator of Breast Cushion project, Mary has spent the last 20 years ordering materials, organised cutting (not easy with silk), sewing, stuffing and packing days for the breast cushions.

She has coordinated distribution to hospitals in Adelaide and then delivered them to their destinations.

Mary liaises with Breast Care nurses at various hospitals and makes emergency deliveries as required. Originally, the group was making 20 cushions a month but this is now 30.

Mary has overseen the making of more than 5,500 of these very important post-operative cushions for women who have had surgery for breast cancer.

The cushions are placed under the arm on the effected side and provide comfort and stability for the patient. As they are lovingly presented with wrapping, a bow and a card, they they are an important aid to recovery.

This is a very important project for the Zonta Club of Noarlunga Southern Vales, which receives many letters and donations from recipients of these pillows saying how useful they have been in their recovery.

If you would like to be involved in this project, contact Mary on 8382 2348.

You do not need to be a member of the club to be involved but if you would like more information on the club, contact Jane Morrison on 8556 6602.
