Movie buffs from all around the region are gearing up for another year of sharing their love for film as part of the Southern Fleurieu Film Society.

For six years now, the community group has hosted monthly screenings in Goolwa and Milang to explore some of the world’s best films.

There are eleven screenings a year, held on the first Wednesday of each month in Goolwa and the first Friday of each month in Milang.

On Wednesday, February 7, the group will be treated to As it is in Heaven, a 2006 Swedish comedy drama. The Milang screening of the film was held on Friday, February 2.

Next month, members will When Pigs Have Wings, a Palestinian comedy from 2011.

Chairperson Mike Tye said new members were always welcome.

“The group promotes film as an art form and encourages social interaction at the same time,” he said.

“It’s a great way for people new to the area to meet other locals too.”

He said the group often strayed from mainstream movies.

“Quite often we screen foreign films or movies that our members most likely wouldn’t see otherwise,” he said.

“We always do a classic film too and this year it’s Casablanca.”
