The final set of minor round matches in Great Southern cricket got underway on Saturday with some important games taking place in regard to ladder positions for the top four teams.
Noarlunga is playing host to Goolwa and the match is evenly balanced going in to day two after the Magpies were bowled out for 110 in their first innings with Ward (42) being the only batsman to really show some form for the visitors.
J Scarff had a good day out with the ball finishing with 4/18 for the Shoes while Stewart-Tonkin (3/32) gave good support to his skipper.
Goolwa struck back late in the day to have Noarlunga sitting on 3/48 and Sam Carlyle (24 not out) will be the key wicket for Goolwa if they are to get over the line this Saturday.
Willunga v Encounter Bay
Willunga’s strong bowling line-up got the job done in their big clash against Encounter Bay as they bowled the Bays out for just 115.
Goldner (3/32) continued his excellent form with the ball for the Demons while S McIvor and Elliot both chipped in with a couple of wickets for the home side.
Only Parry (27) and youngster J Magor (32) showed any resistance with the bat for the Bays and they will need to bowl exceptionally well this Saturday if they are to get the points.
Mt Compass v Yankalilla
Yankalilla showed some improved form with the bat last Saturday against Mount Compass as the Tigers batted their allotted overs to finish the day on 8/191 with Bartlett (76), Sumner (37) and Jones (31) all contributing well for their team.
Jayden Brown (4/50) was the pick of the bowlers for the Bulls and it will be an interesting run chase this Saturday as both teams want to avoid the wooden spoon.
Port Elliot v McLaren Districts
McLaren Districts also had a good day out with the bat against Port Elliot as their skipper Petrucci (64) led from the front as the Crushers finished the day on 8/212 with Curtis (53) and L Goodieson (30) making solid contributions.
Donaldson toiled hard for the Bloods with the ball to finish with 4/50 and this will also be another interesting run chase this Saturday as both sides look to finish their season with a win.
